Android 6.0 Marshmallow Not For Nexus 4, Nexus 7 (2012) and Nexus 10?

Today, Google unveiled its new Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P smartphones, the first devices to come with its latest OS version, Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The new handsets are intended to offer the best hardware to showcase the capabilities of the OS - but Marshmallow will also make its way to existing handsets.
Google announced today that it will begin the rollout of Android 6.0 next week, with availability on October 5 for the Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7 (2013), Nexus 9 and Nexus Player. However, as you may have noticed, there are several notable omissions from that list.

As first reported by Android Police yesterday, and verified by Ars Technica today, the absence of three devices from that list was no accident: the Nexus 4, Nexus 7 (2012) and Nexus 10 will not be upgraded to Marshmallow, and are unlikely to get any further OS updates beyond those already available.
